STEVE BARRIER
1966-2020
On May 23, 2020, a collective sigh of relief could be heard from every deer, turkey and critter roaming Central Arkansas, as that is the day Steve (Romo, Bananacheck) Barrier left this earthly hunting ground. Some called him Master Hunter of the deer lease and some called him the best pest and wildlife control man in the state. All knew him as one hell of a guy. Steve’s quick wit and dry humor defined his every interaction, and his loyalty defined every friendship.
Steve Left this world suddenly and peacefully from a heart attack in his sleep, like many of his prey, he never knew what hit him. For his family and friends, there remains a void that can never be filled. There simply is no replacing Steve Barrier.
He is survived by his beloved son Patrick, step-son Jonathan, Uncle Sam Butler , cousins Sam “Tuck” Butler, Amanda Butler and Ron Dennie, life-long friend and close as a brother Sam Coulter, his ex-wife, Jennifer, whom he considered a friend, his dog Tugg and a host of other special people in his life, including Scott Nalley, chief golf opponent, poker mate and cruise companion, and Bartt Johnson the Third Amigo.
He is preceded in death by his mother Grace “Gigi” Countryman who passed away just six months prior. It would appear he just could not live without her. He owed her his quick wit and his cheeks and his love of Cavendar’s. He is also preceded in death by his Aunt Nip, Aunt Tuck and three of the best dogs ever to walk on four legs, Colo (Colossus), Bo and Flop.
Public Memorial services have been postponed due to the pandemic restrictions, but rest assured, plans for memorial services are in the works and will take place as restrictions are lifted. Can’t wait to see you all there.
If you are so inclined, Steve’s son Patrick has ask that donations be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital or United Cerebral Palsy. Links have been provided on the Donations tab.
